The former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu is close to securing a move to the French first division club Ajaccio. The club president recently revealed that they have been conducting discussions with the former Chelsea striker over the possibility of a potential move. The Romanian international is regarded as one of the best strikers in Europe, although he is coming to the end of his career. However, his career has been chequered with various scandals that has taken the limelight out of his talent. Ajaccio, though, are likely to get the best out of the player, as he has a lot to prove to the world.
He has also been found guilty of drug abuse while he was a Chelsea player. As a result of the court verdict, Adrian Mutu owes more than £ 14 million in compensation to the Premier league club. It remains to be seen if he will be able to pay the amount before the end of his career. The sad thing is that he is genuienly good enough to play in the biggest chelsea fixtures.
The 30-year-old striker might be under the contract of the Italian second division club Cesena, but the Ajaccio president has revealed that a move is close to being finalised. Adrian Mutu has played for the likes of Chelsea, Juventus, Fiorentina and Parma during his long and illustrious career.
“His financial demands are much lower than Brandao for a player of another calibre. If we succeed, it will be a massive coup and it is very much on the right track,” said the President of the French Ligue 1 club. The arrival of Adrian Mutu will certainly be a statement of intent for the club given that he has a proven track record of scoring goals in all the clubs he has played for during his professional career. Adrian Mutu tested positive for the banned cocaine back in 2004.

Adrian Mutu has said that there is no certainity about his future at the moment. Mutu has been playing for Cesena till now. But, Cesena wasn’t able to save its place in the series A last season. So, it is looking to release some of its players. Mutu said that he might be the one who would be released by the club. He said that he had a meeting with the authorities of Cesena and he is not sure if he would be sold or not.
According to the contract, Cesena has to pay Mutu 1.8 million euros every season. But, if a club is playing in the B series, it would be very difficult for the club to pay that much to a player. So, there is much probability that Mutu would be sold. There have been reports that a lot of teams are showing their interest in Mutu. Clubs such as Sion FC, Besiktas Istanbul and Genoa are willing to have Mutu in their team. However, Mutu said that he will continue practicing with the Cesena team until he gets a new contract.
Before joining Cesena, Mutu used to play for Fiorentina. In 2011, Mutu signed a two year contract with Cesena. In the last season, Mutu played 28 matches for Cesena and scored 8 goals for them. Mutu said that he is looking for such a club where he would get a chance to play some competitive matches. On being asked would he like to play in Italy or overseas, Mutu said that it doesn’t matter whether he gets a chance to play in Italy or somewhere else. But, wherever he would go, he just wants to play some tough football and show his skills. Mutu was the top scorer for Cesena last season. He said that playing for Cesena has been quite enjoyable for him and it’s disappointing that he might have to leave the club.

English football fans will remember Adrian Mutu as one of the large influx of players who joined Chelsea during, Roman Abramovich’s spending spree after taking over the club in 2003. Mutu came to Chelsea with a £15.8 million price tag and many Chelsea fans failed to see the investment justified on the pitch.
After conflicts with then manger Jose Mouriniho, Mutu tested positive for cocaine and was sacked from the club in 2004 to serve a seven month ban from football and a court case which still continues to date, with a final appeal to the European court of justice to avoid a 17million euro damages payment to his old club, which would be the largest fine ever levied by FIFA.
Although he will be well known for this, few will know of his career post Chelsea. After arriving to England as a talent 24 year old with a bright future in European football, Mutu’s fall from grace is perhaps not dramatic as many may believe. Mutu has remained an important player for all the clubs he was played for. Both during a brief spell at Juventus and during his six year spell at Fiorentina, he has averaged over 13 goals a season including being named player of the season by ‘il calcio’ during the 2006-2007 Serie A season. Despite this in 2010 Mutu once again failed a doping test, punished with a length ban.
The true question surrounding Mutu is to what extent his potential to be one of Europe’s top strikers was destroyed by his personal life? It is clear his rise to stardom was shattered following his time at Chelsea and the lengthy court case that pursues him. In the end it is fair to say that Mutu will fall under the banner of the one of many sportsmen whose personal life destroyed their promising career.

Former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu looks all set to leave Italian club Cesena in the summer. However, his destination has been known as of yet. There have been rumours that he could be set for a return to Romanian club Dinamo Bucharest.
Adrian Mutu played for Dinamo Bucharest when he was an emerging player during the 1999-00 season. Since then, Adrian Mutu has experienced a lot football. He has been part of both good and bad in football. Now, the 33-year-old striker is coming to the end of his career. As a result, many have been of the opinion that the decision to leave Cesena at the end of the season has already been taken by the Romanian, while he could be interested in joining his former club Dinamo Bucharest at the start of the new season.
Adrian Mutu, though, has said that he will look at the possibility of joining Dinamo Bucharest only club finish in the Champions League this season. This comes as a surprise given that it is very unlikely that many clubs will be showing an interest in signing the player in the summer because of his troublesome nature both on and off the field. Dinamo Bucharest are currently top of the Romanian league, and look on course to finish in the Champions League positions. However, they are facing stiff challenge from CFR Cluj, who are level on points with them.
“I dream about playing for Dinamo again. It is very likely that I’ll rejoin the club in the next few years, maybe even this summer, but only if they win the league. However if they don’t play Champions League football next season, it is unlikely. That’s the only way I will be there next season,” Mutu told Antena 1 with regard to his future plans.

Relegation-threatened Parma managed a fighting 2-2 draw with Cesena in the latest round of Italian Serie A fixtures. Parma took the lead through Sergio Floccari in the 40th minute, but they were unable to hold on to the lead for much longer. Cesena came back with a vengeance in the match after they took the lead through goals from Mario Santana and Simone Del Nero. However, the goals from Cesena seemed to wake up the Parma players, as they continued to fight in the relegation battle. Gabriel Paletta finally gave Parma a major advantage in the relegation battle, as he secured the equaliser in the 61st minute.
Cesena managed to control the game from then on, but they were subjected to pressure from Parma at times in the match. However, they managed to survive and come away with the 2-2 draw in the match. This was extremely lucky because Parma struck the woodwork twice in the final few minutes of the match. The first close opportunity for Parma came in the 77th minute when a shot from substitute Francesco Valiani struck the woodwork. Cesena’s relegation from the Italian Serie A seems all but confirmed after they remain without a win in the last 11 games, while they have 14 points to make up in order to get away from the relegation zone.
Parma, meanwhile, were coming into the match after having not won a single match since February 5th. However, this extremely exciting 2-2 draw with Cesena would have given them enough confidence to take in the remainder of the Italian Serie A matches. Despite this extremely poor run of form, Parma remain five points clear of the 17th placed team – Lecce. They have secured just three points in the last five matches in the Italian Serie A.
