REMEMBERING CHELSEA FORMER MAN ADRIAN MUTU

Sunday, September 24th, 2017

As Chelsea keep struggling to get their targets this summer, this season seems like one that would be hard fought.

The Blues lost the chase for Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool. They also lost the chance to sign Swansea forward Fernando Llorente as Tottenham beat them to it. Leicester City’s RiyadMahrez might join them but nothing is sure anymore. Danny Drinkwater has expressed desire to move to Stamford Bridge but The Foxes are yet to accede to the request.

Antonio Conte tried luring RomeluLukaku back to Chelsea earlier but Manchester United beat them to it. While the Italian has added three to four new players, he would be set for transfer deadline pressure to add more, considering the number that left.

As Chelsea continue to suffer more woes in the transfer market, we remember when they signed Adrian Mutu back in 2003.

The Romanian joined the west London club that summer. He moved from Parma to Chelsea for a then large sum of €22.5 million. That was before the transfer market got as inflated as it is now. (more…)

LOOKING AT STARS THAT NEVER WON MAJOR TITLES

Monday, May 8th, 2017

Football players always dream of winning titles after all the hard work.

It might not their top priority but at some point they would always want the joy of lifting titles. Some talented players have worked very hard yet they have never won major titles. We look at some of them, recent ones in no particular order.

Italian Giuseppe Signori makes this list. He netted 283 times in his career but he never quite got to lift a major trophy. He was the top scorer in the Serie A for three years out of four. He was the top scorer in the Coppa Italia two times but it was after he left that Lazio won the Coppa Italia, UEFA Super Cup and even the Serie A.

Bernd Schneider is a decent star that made finals multiple times but he never lifted the title. He played in the Bundesliga, coming close in second place twice in 1999/2000 and 2001/2002; he played in the DFB Pokal, emerging runners up in 2001/02 and 2008/09, and he was in the team that reached the Champions League final in 2001/02 yet no single victory. He played at the FIFA World Cup in 2002 yet a silver medal. How unlucky he must feel. Luigi Di Biagio also has numerous runner up finishes with no major credit. (more…)

Monday, April 20th, 2015

On April 7, Fiorentina locked horns with Juventus at the ArtemioFranchi Stadium as both clubs were competing in order to get into the finals of the Coppa Italia and it was Juventus which came out on top as they claimed a 3-0 victory which finalized in an aggregate scoreboard of 4-2 which was more than enough for the team of MassimilianoAllegri to book their spot in the finals of the Italian competition.

Fiorentina is competing in the Europa League and is competing in the top 5 spots of the Italian League, Serie A. The side of Vincenzo Montella is undergoing a stable and promising season but according to the 40 year old Italian manager, Montella believes that the defeat they suffered against Juventus will have a big effect on his players and the manager is starting to get concerned.

“We have to find an explanation, but it’s not a physical issue. It’s probably a psychological one, because probably the midweek defeat really hit our confidence hard. We didn’t expect to lose so heavily to Juventus and that also is a concern. What does worry me is their mental state, as over the last five or six days I’ve seen a different team.I don’t like this team and it’s up to me to give them a different motivation and spur them on to change tack.”Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Montella told the media. Adrian Mutu wont return to Fiorentina

Monday, March 30th, 2015

In January, a string of rumors were linking Adrian Mutu with a return to his former club Fiorentina as the Romanian footballer had ended his contract with the Romanian club Petrolul Ploiesti and he was a free agent for a few months.

Adrian Mutu used to perform with the Fiorentina jersey a few years ago; it was with the Italian club where he really managed to stand out as he scored over 50 goals and made over 110 performances.

There was no doubt whatsoever that Mutu had an outstanding time in Italy as a player of Fiorentina and since he was a free agent, for a short period of time it was believed that Mutu was going to spend the last few years of his career in the club where he made a huge impact, in Fiorentina but those rumors did not last very long as Mutu later decided to retire from playing football at a competitive stage.

Mutu’s career in Fiorentina reached a downhill point after he was tested positive for doping as well as a series of injuries which kept him out of action for almost the entire season of 2009-10.

When his time with Fiorentina reached it’s end, he went on to join Cesena, Ajaccio and Petrolul Ploiesti but the highest point of his career was undoubtedly was spent with the Fiorentina jersey.

Chelsea was the only Premier League club that Adrian Mutu joined in his playing career and the English club has been attempting to seek compensation from the Romanian footballer since 2005 due to a ‘’breach of contract’’ which initiated after Mutu left Chelsea and went on to join Juventus. (more…)
